This month’s fashion editorial for Title Sussex was inspired by the decadent frills of Culture Club and the New Romantics of the early 1980s. Leave it to English weather to be cold and rainy when we’re scheduled take the look from nightclub to day by shoot outdoors all day long though. Luckily, the rain was intermittent so we managed to get the job done in between showers, and we went to Plan B for getting some inside shots of the fabulous shoes on loan from Irregular Choice.
I really loved the idea of a floral mohawk for this concept, and hairstylist Gary Forde of House of Hair Brighton delivered brilliantly by using palm fronds to create the bespoke headdress you see in the opening DPS.
I learned a fun fact about my assistant Matt on this shoot. It turns out he’s got mad professional climbing skills from a history of working as a radio tower rigger – which meant that when I really wanted a light rigged up high inside the top of the dome of the folly in the gardens of Fontwell Park, Matt was able to sort that out with ease. Legend. (Check out my Twitter feed to see behind-the-scenes photos of him in action.)
